Sebastian Werner

Principal Technology Consultant · Frontend Architecture, UI Quality & Developer Experience

I help software teams and large organizations build new frontend platforms. I make early architecture decisions and implement them with the team, drawing on years of work with UI frameworks, internationalization, and developer tooling. I also modernize existing frontends.

I led development of the qooxdoo JavaScript UI framework at 1&1 and worked on Deutsche Telekom's Unify framework and early Tolino browser software. Core and Jasy were developed on our own initiative and used extensively at Zynga for our games' base library and build process. Today, my infrastructure work also includes Rust engines with TypeScript/Node.js interfaces.

Selected experience

Regrello — internationalization for an established enterprise platform

I led the internationalization of a substantial enterprise application, bringing translation into its UI and development workflow. This combined Lingui localization, catalog tooling, and LLM-assisted translation. I also contributed review interfaces for translated user content and modernized the frontend workspace, linting, and component-development setup.

3Degrees — product UI, internationalization, and rendering performance

I lead work on visual quality, internationalization, and frontend performance for this US-based energy-management product. I introduced application localization, migrated Lingui to Palamedes, and worked on public marketplace pages, mobile layouts, SEO, caching, and streaming. The team works entirely in English and uses AI-supported development extensively.

Otto Group — architecture for multilingual, multi-brand commerce

At Witt, I introduced GraphQL orchestration across backend services so the shop frontend could use a consistent API. My work covered server rendering, code splitting, build tooling, and internationalization for Eastern Europe. At empiriecom, I contributed GraphQL and component-library development and helped clarify implementation questions.

Deutsche Bank / DWS — frontend architecture for banking and investments

For corporate banking and a robo-advisor investment platform, I contributed frontend architecture, technology decisions, and interactive financial visualizations. I worked with specialist and distributed teams within formal approval and release processes.

Huawei / Deutsche Telekom and Zynga — performance for TV and game interfaces

At EntertainTV, I implemented animations, layouts, and interaction on limited set-top-box hardware. At Zynga, I worked on HTML5 game infrastructure, scrolling, and developer tooling in a large JavaScript environment. Both required detailed work on runtime behavior and UI performance.

EnBW — a shared frontend foundation for white-label portals

I built shared monorepo, theme, component, and typed API foundations for customer portals and a support workbench. The platform supported tenant-specific features, content, and visual identity. I documented how to separate data integration from reusable UI components.

Open-source development

I build and maintain open-source tools to give back to the developer community. These projects make work on architecture, internationalization, and performance available for others to use and build on:

How I work

I especially enjoy greenfield work: helping a team establish the architecture and tooling for a new product. My web-design background shapes how I judge layout, motion, and interaction. I share knowledge through reviews, documentation, and mentoring. I contribute through long-term implementation engagements, architecture reviews, and workshops.
